Hombale Films now aim big, bigger, biggest : the Oscars

At the prestigious WAVES 2025 summit in Mumbai, Hombale Films emerged as a shining symbol of Indian cinema’s global ambitions. Co-founder Chaluve Gowda took the stage at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit to share the studio’s next big leap: an Oscar campaign for Kantara Chapter 1.

Known for redefining Kannada cinema with game-changing hits like KGF, Kantara, and Salaar, Hombale Films is now championing international recognition for regional storytelling. During a panel discussion alongside editor A. Sreekar Prasad (RRR) and Oscar committee member Ujwal Nirgudkar, Gowda revealed that Kantara Chapter 1 is being crafted with global audiences and awards in mind.

“There’s a clear gap in understanding the Oscar application and campaigning process,” Gowda said. “We need more workshops and platforms to educate Indian creators on aiming higher and reaching global milestones.”

Beyond the big screen, Hombale’s impact was also felt at the WAVES Bazaar — a vibrant global marketplace for film and entertainment deals. As an Associate Partner, Hombale helped bridge cross-border collaborations, reinforcing its role as a cultural and commercial force in the industry.

From pushing creative boundaries to placing Kannada cinema on the world map, Hombale Films is scripting a remarkable success story. At WAVES 2025, the message was clear: the studio isn’t just creating blockbusters — it’s building a legacy that resonates beyond borders.
