India’s indigenous air defence system is rewriting the rules of modern warfare

On the night of May 9 and 10, as waves of Pakistani drones and missiles pierced Indian skies, an invisible sentinel stood guard. It did not roar like a fighter jet or flash like a missile. It listened. It calculated. It struck.
This was Akashteer—India’s first fully automated, indigenous Air Defence Control and Reporting System.
In a warzone where seconds mean survival, Akashteer gave India the edge. Seamlessly integrating radars, sensors, and weapon systems, it neutralised every incoming threat with clinical precision. Developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, this high-tech nerve centre marks India’s transition from passive defence to proactive, intelligent retaliation.
Where Pakistan relied on imported HQ-9 and HQ-16 systems—failing to detect Indian counterstrikes—Akashteer stood firm, intercepting and eliminating hostile targets. It forms the core of a unified tri-services air defence network, connecting the Indian Army’s AAD with the Air Force’s IACCS and Navy’s TRIGUN system. The result: real-time situational awareness, minimal risk of friendly fire, and rapid, coordinated response across domains.
Akashteer is mobility, precision, and autonomy fused into one battlefield brain. Mounted on vehicles, it operates in live combat zones, enabling low-level airspace monitoring and intelligent control of ground-based air defence weapons. It’s not just reactive—it anticipates.
This is not an isolated success. Akashteer is part of a rising ecosystem of indigenous platforms—from the Tejas and Arjun tanks to naval destroyers and radars—positioning India as a self-reliant defence power. With ₹3 lakh crore targeted in defence production by 2029, and 65% of equipment already made domestically, the message is loud and clear: India builds, India protects.
