UNSC to Hold Closed Consultations on India-Pakistan Situation

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to hold closed consultations on May 5, 2025, to discuss the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
The meeting is said to be scheduled by the Greek Presidency, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council for May.
This meeting follows recent developments in South Asia that have heightened regional concerns, particularly after a major terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The incident led to a significant number of civilian casualties and has prompted international concern over the escalation of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The UNSC consists of 15 member countries, including five permanent members and ten non-permanent members. Discussions within the Council are expected to focus on de-escalation efforts and ways to prevent further instability in the region.
The broader international community has emphasized the importance of peace, dialogue, and adherence to international law to address such issues. The meeting is viewed as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain regional stability and prevent further deterioration in South Asia.
