US stands strong with India and extends full support to PM Modi

In the aftermath of the brutal April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the United States has extended its unequivocal support to India. The assault, which primarily targeted tourists, has heightened regional tensions, drawing strong responses from New Delhi.

The US State Department confirmed that President Donald Trump has assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his full backing in India’s fight against terrorism. The statement marks a continuation of close US-India cooperation, especially in security and counterterrorism. Senior US officials are maintaining active communication with both Indian and Pakistani governments in an effort to contain the situation and promote regional stability.

India has launched a series of retaliatory measures in response to the attack. These include suspending the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and ordering a significant reduction in staff at Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi. Indian forces have also responded robustly to multiple ceasefire violations across the Line of Control, with skirmishes reported in Kupwara, Poonch, Tutmari Gali, and Rampur sectors.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken directly with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging calm and long-term solutions. Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth expressed condolences over the loss of lives.

India has emphasized that those responsible for orchestrating and supporting the attack must be brought to justice, as global attention focuses on South Asia’s fragile peace.
